~What's Happening in September?~

*We are planning an after school program for kids on Tuesdays.  We are “thinking outside the box” to offer a Sunday school program that doesn’t meet on Sunday mornings (we will still offer Sunday school on Sunday mornings for sure; this is an additional outreach.)  We will include games, puppet shows, crafts, and snacks all centered around a passage of scripture.  We will hand-out flyers at our table at an Asa Adams open house fair toward the end of September to help make families aware of this program; we will also be advertising in the P. Times.

*We are also working with the guidance office at the high school and middle school to assist students in finding required “service hours” in our community.  I will be meeting with students after school to develop a relationship, then invite them to be part of a group based out of our church extending service projects to our community.  Please be praying about both of these programs as we journey forward.

*Our Sunday morning start time will change from 10:00 to 11:00 on September 10th.

*Mission Team will meet right after worship on Sunday, September 10th, as we continue to explore and plan ways we extend ministry to each other, our community, and beyond.

*SPRC will meet on Tuesday evening, September 5th at 6:30 to prepare for Church Conference (see next item….)

*Our Church Conference will take place on Sunday, September 17th.  We will meet together with our friends from the Alton UMC (we will meet at Orono UMC.)

*Join us for dinner at Governor’s Restaurant!  To help raise funds for Dr. Kelli’s medical mission’s trip to Haiti (see enclosed flyer) Governor’s will donate a portion of their proceeds from 4:30 to 7:00 on Sunday, September 17th.  Also ahead: a bake sale on September 10th right after church (please bring something to sell, and some cash to buy stuff!) along with a “Cake Walk” during fellowship hour that will happen later in the month.  If you are not able to participate in any of these activities, we invite you to make a donation toward the cause; checks may be written to Orono UMC, with “Dr. Kelli” on the memo line.  Thank you!

*Our Bible and topic study groups will begin meeting on Sunday, September 10th. There are two opportunities to meet: Sunday mornings at 9:45, and Tuesday afternoons at 1pm.  We will begin the year with a great DVD/book/discussion based study on the life of Moses.  The DVD will take us to the locations often referred to in Moses’ story.  Hope you can join us!

*Our Christmas Fair is planned for Saturday, November 11th.  Donations of puzzles, dishes, jewelry, woodcrafts, mittens, hats, doll clothes and other items are welcome (no clothing, please.)

*Choir rehearsals begin on Thursday evening, September 14th at 7pm.  All are welcome to join this fun group for fellowship and music.
